SANDIE RHYND
Stickdresser
Stick dressing is a venerable craft that still flourishes in Britain, USA and other Countries. In New Zealand it is pursued by a few enthusiasts of which I am one.
I observed the craftsmen and saw their work in various Agricultural shows when I toured England and Scotland in 1990. I was so taken with the craft that I took it up in earnest when I retired in 1995
Since then I have enjoyed many hours making sticks of various types and styles.
The demand for my sticks has exceeded all my expectations and I have found I have a lot of sticks to make to keep up with the demand I now make 500 sticks a year.
I now have over 12 outlets from TeAnau in the south to Kaitaia in the north.
I have had great success at the Bay of Islands Waimate North show, winning best Walking Stick one year and best Crook two years in a row.
