LIZ BUCKLAND

Liz was born in Liverpool and in 1956 came to NZ with her family under the ‘Ten Pound Pom’ scheme.
After raising a family of four children and retiring from a career in teaching, there was at last time to pursue her longtime interest in the arts.
Whilst living in Wellsford she started dabbling in mosaics. Joining a Cooperative in Warkworth widened her group of ‘arty’ friends and provided lots of support and exposure to new media and processes.
At this time she decided that she would like to have more control over the pieces used in her mosaic work. A friend who made pottery tiles taught her the basics so that she would be able to make her own mosaic pieces.
Fortunately or unfortunately Liz became fascinated with clay and the processes involved in turning it from its raw natural state into a variety of beautiful and functional objects.
So began the journey that has seen Liz move to Whangarei, become a member of THE BACH cooperative, take lessons in pottery to develop her knowledge of this craft and in April 2008 buy her own kiln.
The journey is continuing…
