LAUREL WHEELER
Spinner, weaver, knitter.

Laurel comes from New Plymouth where in the 60’s she taught Clothing & Textiles at New Plymouth Girls High School .

She then branched out into designing and sewing bridal clothes, her costumes winning the Bride of the Year 3 times. In the 70’s she worked as  an interior decorator for a few years before 13 years as  a receptionist for a  ENT surgeon.

Laurel began knitting at the age of 5 and has never stopped. In 1986 Laurel started spinning and took lessons at night school with her married daughter, enjoying these times together, both working at the time it was the only chance they had to get together.

On retiring to Snells Beach she joined the Kowhai Crafts spinning group in Warkworth, until 4 years later moving to Whangarei with her husband John where she joined the Whangarei Spinners and Weavers  group.

Laurel sources  fleeces locally in a range of natural colours which she spins up and knits into traditional jerseys. Carefully selected colour ways are crocheted into rugs.

Spinning, Knitting and Crocheting, such  a wonderful way to relax .
