Born and raised on a sheep and cattle farm at Waverley South Taranaki, Janet moved to Whangarei in the late 1980s.

She attended Northland Polytechnic 1989-1992 gaining a Diploma of Applied Arts majoring in pottery.

She has been a self employed potter and farmer since 1983 and also tutors at Maungakahia School in pottery and print making.

Janet established Earthbound Craft Education Courses specifically for tourists and travellers in NZ.
