JAN LORRAINE
.Scultural artist.
Jan has always been fascinated by the human form, and as a teenager spent hours after school drawing figurative images. She attended graphics and life drawing night classes at Auckland Institute of Technology.
Later focus was still on the human form painting on canvas with a personal narrative driven by raising a family, juggling work, study, and commissions.
Jan received a diploma of Applied Arts-Visual in 2000 from Northtec.
More recently Jan began working in clay and thinks we humans take ourselves to seriously, so her quicky stoneware paper clay figures take a far less serious look at how we perceive ourselves.
A fulltime artist working from an old boatshed in Parua Bay, Jan explores colour and texture by layering underglazes, oxides and glazes. She sees painting as the laying of marks and sculpture as drawing in space.
Jan received a diploma of Applied Arts-Visual in 2000 from Northtec.
Jan’s work is a continual exploration, recording an emotion response to collected life experiences. She uses the media of photography, clay, and canvas to visualize this.
